Secure Grip for Every Terrain: Boots and Their Functionality

As far as our feet can take us... Adventurers in their leisure or professional pursuits do not want to be limited. The endurance is significantly influenced by the quality and suitability of the boots.

Aspects of Weather

Those who invest in functional footwear less frequently are surprised by the extensive selection at ASMC. However, only in this way is it possible to find the appropriate boots for the intended range of applications. As expected, the models meet the demands of different seasons in terms of material composition. While some models simply complement the outfit stylishly or protect against moisture, other shoes focus on warming properties or comprehensive cold protection. Summer boots for trekking or outdoor activities also ensure a healthy foot climate at high outdoor temperatures and dispense with metal parts when lacing.

Aspects of Terrain

Aside from the characteristic suitability for weather conditions and comfort, the boot's appropriate sole is crucial. It is very enlightening to consciously examine the profiles of the product range at ASMC. Renowned brands are aware that each terrain comes with specific requirements. The pronounced structure of a mountain boot's sole must provide as much grip on vegetative ground as it does on loose rock. Grip is required on slippery passages during jungle expeditions. However, the profile must not immediately clog up with loose soil. In ambitious urban missions, the boot's base must prove itself during mountainous sprints on asphalt or daring leaps from heights. Especially with work boots, it is important that the sole is not attacked by acids and enables secure steps on "explosive" ground. Smooth surfaces are preferable for boots when riding a horse. This allows for sensitive actions during galloping. Gaiters complement this selection perfectly by providing additional protection against wetness and dirt, protecting the legs from injuries from undergrowth, and improving thermal insulation, which can be particularly advantageous in extreme weather conditions.

Expert Tip: Step by Step to a Well-Laced Shoe

Tying shoes may be perceived as a non-demanding task. However, there are some tricks that make walking easier.
With targeted lacing techniques, many problems can be avoided from the outset. A major problem for many people is the heel. Often, it is narrower than the heel box. Then the foot slides up with every step. With boots with so-called "locking hooks," the fit of the heel can be improved by using a bottle lace technique: Thread the laces through both locking hooks. Then guide the opposite laces under this locking hook connection. If you now pull both laces tight, the foot is pushed into the heel box. Finally, lace the shoe as usual, criss-cross.
If there is pressure on the instep, it is recommended to lace the laces at the level of the pressure point instead of criss-crossing through two eyelets on the same side. This allows the shoe to widen.

Questions: Boots

What Size is Right?

There is no general answer, as shoe sizes are not standardized.
Since you tend to slide forward during downhill walking, there should be enough space to prevent knocking. There should be about 1cm of space from the toe to the shoe.

What Else Should be Considered When Trying On?

Boots should be purchased in the evening and not in the morning. Feet swell during the day, so it can be a bit tight in terms of size then.

It's best to wear the socks that you will also wear in the shoe.
