Founded in Bremerhaven in the 1930s, Comet Marine Distress Signals is now one of the world's most important manufacturers of signaling devices in the nautical and military field

For more than five decades, flares and smoke signals have been among the leading products from the German manufacturer, sold in more than 60 countries and used in almost all major world ports.

Use Comet signaling devices easily and correctly

The signal heads are fired using a special launcher, which allows the flare cartridges to be easily attached and fired at the push of a button. The manufacturer specifies the burning time of the cartridges as at least five seconds at a luminosity of 10,000 candelas. Customized magazines with space for up to nine cartridges are available for the dry and safe storage of the projectiles.

It is even easier to use the Comet smoke generators, whose robust packaging can be torn open at marked points and white smoke can then be constantly emitted. Weighing less than 100 grams, the smoke generators can be easily transported and ensure a burning time of several minutes.

- The production of signaling devices and smoke generators has only been at the forefront of Comet's production since the 1960s. For the first few decades, the north German company specialized in the manufacture of fireworks and in 1960 was one of the best-known suppliers of pyrotechnic products in Central Europe.

- The brand name is intended to evoke the comet with its tail which as a celestial body leaves a luminous path similar to that of the manufacturer's flares. What originally applied to the trajectory of fireworks is still applicable to the brand's flares today.

- Primarily designed for the navy and civil shipping, Comet signaling devices are also used in other military areas. The takeover by a British parent company, known as Marine Signal & Safety UK Ltd., has contributed to the global spread of the branded products.
