Information
On August 23, 1958 the last of four sister ships, the Gorch Fock was set to sea. Built for the German Navy by the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, it was named after the poet and writer Johann Kinau, who was well known under the pseudonym "Gorch Fock". It served as a training ship for the training of officers and NCOs and has about 350 cadets on board. When the 2,000 m² sail area is not sufficient, a 800 hp turbo diesel engine helps out by low wind.
