To be able to quickly access the pepper spray, it is recommended to store it in your pocket or in special holsters, so that it is always within reach. However, care should be taken to ensure that the spray cannot be accidentally discharged in the pocket. This can occur especially in highly mobile body areas or with loosely stored provisions and materials. To activate the spray, simply press down the spray head. Any existing safety caps must be removed beforehand, of course. The application should be done with extreme caution. The spray head must be directed away from the body towards the targeted object.

Before choosing the pepper spray, you should recall its area of application. There are no major differences in principle. However, there are sprays in different designs. A so-called "pepper gun" can be very useful, for example, as it is held intuitively correctly and can also spray up to 6 meters away. Special training devices or cartridges allow practice use with water or blue paint, so that you are prepared for emergencies and already have experience in handling them. Expert Tip: Practice the correct use for emergencies

We recommend practicing the use of such an animal defense instrument in a non-real situation. Otherwise, valuable seconds of hesitation in an emergency could thwart a successful deployment. For many models, as mentioned, there is also a corresponding practice cartridge that does not contain an irritant. Here, you can train the situation as realistically as possible, as far as the possibilities allow. It may take some time to aim correctly. However, it should also be remembered that a real emergency is also a stressful situation and that pulling out a spray from a handbag or holster should also be practiced. In less frequented areas late at night, it is also advisable to have the spray ready in your jacket pocket, so that you only need to hold out your hand with the spray in front of you.

Why are they called "sprays"?

Actually, this is a misleading term, because most models of this self-defense system work with a liquid jet. The biggest advantage here is that they can also be used with a headwind without causing harm to oneself.

How far does the "jet" reach?
