Ad esempio, nei telefoni cordless costantemente in carica, che trascorrono circa il 95% del tempo nella base di ricarica, le batterie NiMh sarebbero nettamente meno adatte. La tecnologia NiCd sopporta meglio questa ricarica continua. Il quasi non plus ultra è naturalmente la tecnologia agli ioni di litio o LiIon, utilizzata anche nei moderni cellulari e smartphone. È sì tra le più costose, ma anche tra le più ricche di energia tra le \"barrette di potenza\". Un ulteriore, seppur minimo, sviluppo di questa tecnologia è la LiPoly o polimeri di litio. Per auto e moto si utilizzano per lo più batterie al piombo, che a causa del loro compito principale, ovvero l’avviamento dei veicoli, sono molto pesanti.
