Take a break on the go – with folding chairs from ASMC

Folding and collapsible chairs are compact and practical. We show what matters when it comes to choosing and using them.

Was sollte bei der Verwendung von Klappstühlen beachtet werden?

No special precautions are necessary when using folding chairs. However, it never hurts to take a look at the instructions for use to make sure you do everything correctly when folding and caring for the chair.

Folding chairs feature a folding mechanism that allows the chair to be folded and unfolded. This design saves space and allows for quick and easy transport. The folding mechanism is usually based on a steel frame that provides high stability. If the chair is not properly unfolded, the frame can bend quickly. Therefore, proper setup is essential.

Which folding chair is right for me?

Which folding chair you should choose first depends on the intended area of use. While some folding chairs are quite small and low, i.e. built very close to the ground, other models offer more space and a “loftier” seating position. Older people should opt for folding chairs with a higher seat because of possible back and/or standing-up problems. Younger people can also choose lower seat heights, depending on their preference.

The variety of the range gives you the option of choosing between many different color tones. In addition to black, green and gray color elements, you can also opt for folding chairs in flecktarn camouflage.

The folding chairs differ in particular in terms of their seat height and the size of the backrests, as well as any extra features such as a cup holder. A large backrest offers particularly comfortable seating. Some models are a combination: some backpacks come with an integrated folding chair. This design has the advantage that no additional storage space is required.

Which folding chair you choose ultimately also comes down to personal taste. If you plan to use the folding chair permanently in one place, you should opt for a more robust version. If you only want to use and transport the folding chair occasionally, you can choose more compact models.

Experten-Tipp:

Building a Swedish chair yourself

A so-called Swedish chair also falls under the category of folding chair, even if it is not directly related to classic folding chairs, as its foldability is more of a side effect.

The chairs essentially consist of just two parts that are slotted together, which makes both assembly and transport much easier. Since you only need simple hand tools to build them, they are ideal as a DIY project. You can easily use old boards for the frame and, for the seat, for example, old slatted frames (as they are already curved), meaning that apart from screws you hardly need to spend any money on new materials.

For the seat surface, use about 4 boards with a width of approx. 35 cm. These are mounted on two thicker battens about 60 cm long, ideally using chipboard screws.

For the backrest, use two vertical slats of about 80 cm in length. The two lower cross slats should be very strong and well attached; the seat will later be slotted in between them.

The fabric covering of the backrest can be made from awning fabric or, in a pinch, another old fabric. The main thing is that it can withstand stress.

For transport and also for storage, the chairs can be dismantled very easily: you simply slide the seat into the backrest and they take up hardly any space.

This was only meant to whet your appetite for building and contained just a quick overview.

Questions: Folding chairs

What materials are folding chairs made from?

These chairs are usually made from lightweight materials to make them easier to transport. For camping or more “stationary” use, however, wood is also an option. On longer trips and when you have to cover greater distances on foot, you should opt for lighter materials. Aluminum is most commonly used here, as it offers a good compromise between weight and stability. But as is often the case with field or camping cots, aluminum is frequently reinforced with steel.
