In 1916, the German army introduced a steel helmet for the first time. The M16 steel helmet dramatically changed the appearance of the German soldier. The inner lining (three flaps) is made of leather and features a drawstring for a better fit. It is lined with three pads and can be easily adjusted to smaller sizes by inserting additional pads. It also has a chin strap and side ventilation bolts.
