Camp beds or loungers for enhanced sleeping comfort in the great outdoors.

From trekking to classic camping trips, camp beds or cots provide the best foundation for a comfortable night's sleep. Our selection shows which cots are best suited for which purpose.

Using camp beds correctly - what should you keep in mind?

The frame of the lounger or bed should be stable to prevent it from tipping over during nighttime movements. If a suitable surface such as stone or concrete is unavailable, at least a level surface should be used when setting up the lounger.

Every camp bed has a specified maximum weight capacity, which must be strictly observed. Anyone planning to travel longer distances with the bed should bear in mind that a higher weight capacity also increases the bed's own weight.

A cot protects against sleeping directly on the ground, but not against potential airborne pests. Depending on the destination, a mosquito net should be purchased and fitted snugly around the cot.

Finding the right camp bed or camping lounger

ASMC offers a range of folding beds/cots, but not every model is equally suitable for every purpose. Before choosing a model, you should first consider who will be using it. The dimensions and maximum weight capacity of the bed should be tailored accordingly to ensure adequate sleeping comfort. Since larger models can quickly add several kilograms of weight to your luggage, you should choose a size and weight that is as compact as possible. This will save you unnecessary effort when transporting the cots, especially if you frequently change locations during a trip.

From classic German Army camouflage to solid-color models, a variety of options are available, differing not only in appearance. Those seeking a peaceful night and wishing to avoid attracting unwanted visitors should choose a sleeping bag color that complements its surroundings. The functionality of the color choice for the specific terrain should take precedence over aesthetic considerations.

For a long lifespan of camp beds, it is important to pay attention to the quality of the frame. ASMC's product range generally relies on high-quality aluminum, which, when the maximum weight capacity of a bed is observed, can be used for countless trips, field camps, and excursions.

However, a folding camp bed, which doesn't take up much space when folded, is also recommended as a guest bed, although you can of course also use the slightly heavier air mattress. These models are even a bit more comfortable for the guest.

Expert tip:

Use a sleeping mat for additional insulation.

Even though a field cot generally protects you from the cold ground, you shouldn't underestimate how much your back and underside can cool down while lying down. In this case, it's advisable to use a sleeping mat that lives up to its name.

Questions: Camp beds and cots

What types of storage and transport options are available?

Some camp beds come with a practical carrying bag, which, depending on the folding mechanism of the bed, can have a very small pack size (see next point). This not only protects the bed from damage and dirt, but also ensures optimal carrying comfort for the respective model.

What are the packed dimensions?

The packed size refers to the space a bed requires when folded and ready for transport. This, along with the product's weight, must be factored into any trip, whether by car or on foot. A common weight for beds with steel frames is 8 kg.

How do differences in quality become noticeable?

You can tell relatively quickly whether you're lying on a high-quality camp bed or a cheaper model. It has to do with the stability of the entire construction as well as the fabric and the material used for it. If you plan to use the bed more than twice a year, you shouldn't skimp on quality here.

Which frame material is recommended?

Most beds have an aluminum, steel, or wooden frame: aluminum is naturally the lightest, while steel—especially if it uses wide tubing—can significantly increase the overall weight. However, it is also considerably more stable. A hybrid design is therefore often used: aluminum frames reinforced with steel tubing, which simply incorporate a small-diameter steel tube inside. Then there are the wooden versions, which can be more pleasant to assemble (aluminum frames are sometimes considered to have sharp edges).

What types of covering material are available?

There are models made with a cotton blend, but pure nylon is also frequently used. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be a bit noisier when you walk on it. Of course, personal preference also plays a role here. If wipeability is important to you, you might be better off choosing the nylon version.

How long should the bed be?

Taller individuals can quickly bump their heads on the top and bottom crossbars, which is particularly uncomfortable around the head. Therefore, it's essential to ensure the overall length is sufficient to comfortably lie on the soft surface.
