Standing up to the sun

Headscarves are not about warmth. In fact, the opposite is true: the control center of your thinking needs to be protected from heat without the headgear weighing too heavily. At the same time, the additional fabric in some variants serves as protection against wind, dust and sand. It’s no coincidence that male desert dwellers in the Middle East consistently rely on the “kufiya”, also known as a “Palestinian scarf”, “bandana” or “shemagh”. Arab and Turkish people use headscarves almost as standard headgear.

The lightweight material does not weigh you down, yet proves itself against many weather conditions in warm regions with loose soil. For Western Europeans, spontaneity plays a key role: many models can be draped flexibly, used as a scarf if needed or stowed away in a space-saving manner in a pocket. This way, the accessory is always close at hand in your jacket or safari trousers, which can be very pleasant in the changeable weather of the German homeland.

For the various intended uses, the models are also available in different shapes, colors and camouflage patterns, for example black, red, with Flecktarn or other prints. This also includes fun variants such as a pirate headscarf or a werewolf bite, so you can “transform” yourself quite easily at carnival.

Traditional all-rounders and modern designs

The classic version is a shemagh made of lightweight cotton. The generously cut scarf remains very open in terms of functionality and thus scores with a wide range of uses; among other things, they are also used by bikers. Here, elongated models that can easily be arranged and cut to size as a turban are to be distinguished from square versions with a diamond pattern. A camouflage scarf also provides warmth and, if required, combines the scarf with a cap. Modern tube scarves or headscarves build on this design idea. This compact version is exceptionally versatile and can be used as headgear, scarf, wrist warmer or headband. Thanks to this multifunctionality, these accessories are also trendy among women and children. As sun protection, a headwrap is a good choice, bringing the pirate look into the contemporary fashion world. The scarf looks stylish, tames your mane on a windy beach and keeps UV rays off your head.
