Tarps

In principle, cover and guy tarps are used to protect materials from moisture, wind and damage. They are used both indoors and outdoors. When buying, you should make sure that the tarp is made of robust material and is water-repellent. The tarp should also have reinforced corners; in addition, it is an advantage if the seams are sealed to protect against the elements. The grommets should be carefully finished to prevent them from tearing out. A larger number of tie-down points helps distribute the load evenly when tensioning the tarp and prevents it from tearing quickly, even in strong winds.

What types of tarps are there?

Depending on the intended use, different types of tarpaulins are offered on the market. For vehicles, a distinction is made between curtain tarpaulins, trailer tarpaulins and standard tarpaulins, whereas in the construction trades as a whole, but also for painting and wallpapering work, universal cover tarpaulins with high strength are used. There are special covers for swimming pools. Tarpaulins for military use and survival applications generally have to meet individual requirements regarding weather resistance and coloration (camouflage).

Tarps can generally be distinguished by their reusability, weight, light transmission and UV resistance as well as their tear resistance, heat resistance and overall weather resistance. Which properties should be prioritized depends, of course, on the intended use.
