What should be considered when using mosquito protection?

Before first using the mosquito net, it should be checked for any damage – in this case, holes. When hanging the mosquito net, make sure that it is not stretched too tightly. Otherwise, the entire net could be torn off or ripped by minor knocks. You must also ensure that the interior of the mosquito net offers enough space. A high degree of freedom of movement is essential for a longer or even permanent stay.

It is important that the mosquito protection completely encloses the area to be shielded. Smaller holes can allow mosquitoes and insects to enter the interior, which greatly reduces the protective effect of the mosquito net. How the mosquito net is attached depends on the specific product. It is therefore worth taking a look at the user manual beforehand.

Which mosquito protection is right for me?

First you need to decide what you want the mosquito protection for. In addition to simple nets, you can also purchase complete sets that include an additional lying or seating option. What shapes are available?

Mosquito nets are available in numerous variants, whether square or round, with suspension points or without. Depending on the area of use, there are different requirements or recommendations. For protecting complete seating groups, for example, a pyramid shape makes little sense.

How fine-meshed does the net need to be?

That depends on the area you are traveling to. If you want to protect yourself from all potentially occurring animals and not just from a specific type of mosquito, the net should of course be as fine-meshed as possible. In the tropics, however, the requirements here are naturally quite different from those at the pond around the corner.

What to do in case of a tear/enlarged hole?

Of course, you have to notice it first. However, it’s advisable to check the net daily anyway, or at least after every change of location, so that any newly formed holes are spotted quickly. To avoid being left unprotected if a hole does appear, you should always carry a needle and thread in your kit so you can “seal” the hole and restore full mosquito protection.
