How to saw properly – technique & care

Sawing correctly saves energy, increases precision and extends the service life of the saw. With smooth, even strokes that use the full length of the blade, you work efficiently while conserving your strength. The piece of wood should be securely fixed so that it does not slip. Regularly check whether the saw blade is dull – tell-tale signs are when the blade sticks, splinters the wood or requires more pressure. Dull blades can either be resharpened or replaced.

Different saw blades for wood, metal or flexible applications ensure clean cuts. Make sure that the handle is ergonomic, sits well in the hand even when wearing gloves, and that the lock is stable when unfolded.

Transport & security on outdoor missions

Outdoor saws must be stowed reliably and transported safely. Folding saws can be safely stored with the blade in the handle, bow saws disassembled in the backpack, hand chain saws coiled up, and wire saws folded down small. Always check the locking mechanisms so the saw doesn’t open unintentionally.

Safety notice
