With camp beds and cots for superior sleeping comfort in the great outdoors

From trekking to classic camping trips, camp beds or cots are the best foundation for a night’s sleep. Our range shows which cots are particularly suitable for which purpose.

Using camp beds correctly – what should you pay attention to?

The frame of the cot or bed should stand firmly so that it does not tip over when you move at night. If no place on stone or concrete can be found, at least make sure to set up the cot on a level surface.

Every camp bed comes with a stated maximum load that must be strictly observed. If you plan to cover longer distances with the bed, keep in mind that the higher the carrying capacity, the higher the bed’s own weight will usually be.

Finding the right camp bed or camping cot

The ASMC range includes a number of folding beds / camp beds, but not every model is equally suitable for every purpose. Before choosing a model, you should first consider who will be using the bed. The dimensions and maximum load capacity of the bed must be matched to this so that sufficient sleeping comfort is ensured. Since larger models can quickly add several kilos to your pack weight, dimensions and weight should be calculated as tightly as possible. This helps you avoid unnecessary effort when transporting the camp beds if you change location frequently during a trip.

From classic Bundeswehr camouflage colors to solid-colored models, a variety of versions are available that differ visually not only for aesthetic reasons. If you want a quiet night and don’t want to attract uninvited guests, you should adapt the color of your camp bed to the respective surroundings. The functional aspect of the color choice for the terrain in question should be considered before any aesthetic preferences.

For a long service life of camp beds, attention should be paid to a high‑quality frame. The ASMC range generally relies on high‑grade aluminum, which, provided the maximum load capacity of a cot is observed, can be used for countless trips, field camps, and excursions.

A camp bed that doesn’t take up much space when folded is also recommended as a guest bed, although of course you can also use the slightly heavier air bed here. These models are a bit more comfortable for your guest.

Questions: Camp beds and cots

What types of storage and transport options are available?

Some camp beds come with a practical carry bag, which, depending on the folding mechanism, can accommodate a cot with a very small pack size (see next point). This not only protects the cot from damage and dirt, but also provides the best carrying comfort for the respective model.

What is the packed size?

Pack size refers to the space required by a bed when folded up and ready for transport. Along with the product’s weight, this must of course be factored in for any trip, whether by car or on foot. A common weight for products with a steel frame is around 8 kg.

How do differences in quality become apparent?

You can tell relatively quickly whether you’re lying on a high-quality camp bed or on a budget model. This has to do both with the stability of the entire construction and with the cover or the material used for it. If you plan to use the cot more than twice a year, you shouldn’t cut corners here.

Which frame material is recommended?

Most beds have an aluminum, steel, or wooden frame: aluminum is of course the lightest, while steel – especially if wide tubes are used – can significantly increase the overall weight. In return, it is much more stable. A mixed variant is therefore often used: aluminum frames reinforced with steel tubing, where a narrow steel tube runs inside. There are also wooden versions, which can be more pleasant to assemble (aluminum frames are sometimes considered sharp-edged).

What variants of covering material are there?

There are models with cotton‑blend fabric, but pure nylon is also often used. Unfortunately, this is sometimes a bit “louder” when you move on it. But of course personal preferences also play a certain role here. If you value wipe‑clean surfaces, you might be better off choosing the nylon version.

How long should the bed be?

If you are taller, you can quickly bump into the crossbars at the top and bottom, which is of course particularly unpleasant in the head area. You should therefore make sure that the overall length is sufficient so that you can still lie comfortably on the soft sleeping surface.
