How is a thermal container constructed?

Basically, thermal containers, vacuum flasks and insulated food jars are very similar. They consist of two parts that together form a double wall. This creates a vacuum between the walls, which prevents heat or cold transfer. Cold food therefore cannot become warm in summer, and hot food cannot become cold. However, this only applies to high-quality thermal containers, as cheap food containers cannot provide this performance. Instead, they merely serve for transport.

Insulation time

The most important characteristic of a thermal container is, of course, its insulation time. In other words: how long does it keep coffee or soup warm? High-quality insulated containers should be able to keep their contents warm for up to 8 hours. However, this is often an ideal value found in the manufacturer’s specifications. You can even extend the insulation time by preheating the thermos. Hot tap water should be sufficient for a noticeable effect. The liquid should also completely fill the container – too much air will cause the food to cool down more quickly. For this reason, it doesn’t make sense to buy an oversized thermal container out of fear of not having enough capacity.

The most important thing is that the insulated container is free from harmful substances. In addition to the insulation time, the leak-tightness of the vacuum container naturally plays a major role.
