For almost 100 years, Hanwag has been manufacturing its boots in Germany. The name is derived from company founder Hans Wagner, who incorporated a then-new technique, so-called double stitching, into the production of his mountain and trekking boots.

On a firm footing with boots from ASMC

For a long time, the company was family-owned and, in addition to its popular mountain and trekking boots, also produced Haferl shoes and ski boots. The high quality of the partly handmade boots made Hanwag known far beyond Germany’s borders. When the company was sold, the then board insisted that both the name and the production sites in Germany had to be retained. Today the company belongs to the Swedish Fenix Group. The production focus, however, remains on high-quality boots that show their strengths both in mountain hiking and mountaineering.

How do the boots achieve such a high level of comfort?

Due to the special cut, the boots require very few seams. This results in fewer pressure and friction points and ensures the boot fits perfectly.

Why is “double stitching” so important for good boots?

With double stitching, the boot shaft and sole are joined together. The boots become waterproof and extremely robust, as the shaft is connected to the sole both from below and from the side.
