A long and exhausting day of hiking or camping is coming to an end and you’re looking forward to a restful night in your sleeping bag? But what if it no longer feels really fresh or you’d like some extra comfort? That’s where a liner comes in.
A sleeping bag liner is a thin inner layer that you place inside your sleeping bag. It offers numerous advantages that will convince every camping and outdoor fan.
The liner serves as a protective layer between you and your sleeping bag. It keeps body oils, sweat and other dirt away from your sleeping bag, thereby extending its lifespan and freshness. In addition, the liner is easier to wash than the entire sleeping bag.
A sleeping bag liner adds extra comfort in different weather conditions. Some materials store heat and thus provide additional insulation, which is particularly beneficial on cooler nights. Other materials are designed to dissipate excess heat and form a breathable layer. This ensures a pleasant and cool sleeping climate, especially on warm nights. For extra warmth and coziness, you can also add a blanket to your sleep system.
Mil is the unit of length used to specify the thickness of tarp material. One mil corresponds to 0.0254 mm. As a rule of thumb, the thicker the material, the better the quality.
Cotton liners or liners with a high cotton content are especially breathable and skin-friendly. Cotton provides a pleasant feel and is an excellent choice particularly on warmer nights, as it ensures a balanced sleeping climate without overheating.
Silk sleeping bag liners have the natural ability to regulate temperature. This means they can cool when it’s warm and warm when it’s cold, making them suitable for a wide range of conditions.
Polyester is a popular material for liners because it is particularly durable and easy to care for. It wicks moisture away quickly and effectively, ensuring a more comfortable sleeping climate. In addition, liners made of polyester dry faster, making them ideal for travel.
In many cases, liners are additionally equipped with microfleece. Such liners are suitable for those who are looking for extra warmth on cold nights, as microfleece offers particularly high heat retention.
