Badges serve various purposes

The uses of patches are very diverse. They originate in the military sector, but security personnel also wear patches to indicate their status. In the security field, large and eye‑catching patches are used, not least because they are intended to create a certain impression, command respect and encourage rule‑compliant behavior. Military‑style patches are also popular in the private sector. They are part of a specific clothing style inspired by the military, which can be adorned with various emblems. This results in very individual looks that can attract a lot of attention. In addition to classic dog tags, more and more patches are being incorporated into everyday outfits. At ASMC, interested customers will find a wide selection of patches. They are made from sturdy fabrics and can easily be sewn onto clothing. Metal badges allow for different attachment methods. Metal badges are part of the standard equipment in the security sector. Large emblems are usually attached to the back, while a smaller badge on the chest also indicates affiliation with a security service. It is important that all members of a security service or military unit wear the same patches to symbolize cohesion. ASMC also offers patches and other accessories for bulk orders.

The patches are attached to clothing in various ways

Badges can be made from various materials. Depending on the material, they are securely attached to clothing. Many versions are made from very thick fabric. The emblem is usually sewn on. The badge is sewn directly onto the garment in a clearly visible position. There is also the option of attaching them with hook-and-loop fasteners. In this case, the lower part of the hook-and-loop strip is sewn onto the garment. The badge also has a hook-and-loop strip so it can be easily and securely attached to the clothing when needed. Metal or steel badges are attached in different ways. They can be secured with straps that are threaded through small holes in the badges. Alternatively, metal badges can also be stapled onto sturdy clothing.

Expert tip: How do you iron on a fabric badge?

To ensure long‑lasting enjoyment of the high‑quality patch, we have a few useful tips and tricks for ironing it on: Iron‑on patches and appliqués have a special coating on the back so they can easily be ironed onto all cotton fabrics. It’s best to do a short ironing test on the garment: iron the spot where the patch is to be attached. First, of course, place the patch in the desired position. Then, to protect both the embroidery and the iron, place a cloth between the iron and the patch. The iron should be at a temperature of approx. 135 °C. Press the patch on firmly for about 20–30 seconds. It is advisable to apply some pressure with the tip of the iron (especially along the edges of the patch). These values are average guidelines that should be individually adjusted to the fabric’s heat permeability and thickness. The above ironing instructions apply to normal textiles made of cotton and blended fabrics with a higher cotton content. For other textiles made of 100% polyester (jerseys), etc., we cannot guarantee optimal adhesion of the fabric patch. It is recommended to carry out tests on less visible areas beforehand on modern textiles.

What is the difference between laser-cut and merrowed edge on fabric patches?

A whipstitched edge means that the edge is overcast with a thread. In contrast, with a laser cut the edge is cut by laser so that no fraying can occur, as would be the case when cutting with a knife or scissors.
