The Modern Bayonet – From Military Melee Weapon to Multipurpose Knife

Originally, the bayonet was intended in warfare to combine firearm and blade. Conventional infantry lost importance in the face of increasing gunfire, but reloading rifles still required a lot of time. The steel spike or blade attached to the rifle muzzle allowed soldiers to switch to close combat after firing a shot. In modern warfare, the bayonet is long outdated, but these blades still retain their historical fascination.

Bayonets are among the sharpest and most dangerous blades. These knives feature extremely hard blades and often integrated mounts. While theoretically still possible to mount blades on the barrel of a firearm, nowadays they are more known for their functional carry methods on belts, leg holsters, or combat rigs. Thus, the bayonet is an important addition to the survival kit for adventurous vacations. The long, robust blade effortlessly handles thick ropes and sturdy wood.
