Hip bags

Travelling light

Hip bags are relatively small bags with an adjustable strap that are worn around the waist or hips. They are suitable for carrying small items such as ID documents, keys, pocketknives or travel documents.

Properties and characteristics of hip bags

(translated: hip bags) are used to carry a few light pieces of equipment, both for outdoor activities and in everyday life or when travelling. They are now available in many different versions and sizes. The volume of larger models is already sufficient to replace a daypack. Smaller models are often used as an addition to a backpack to store frequently used items such as cameras, compasses or maps. In the outdoor sector, hip bags are mainly used for running, trail running, speed hiking and hiking.

What activities are hip bags suitable for?

Hip bags are very well suited for shorter trips or hikes where taking a backpack isn’t yet worthwhile. There are special versions for endurance athletes that, in addition to the main compartment, have space for a small water bottle. Energy bars and blister plasters are often stored in the main compartment. Larger hip bags can also carry more extensive gear such as small stoves (e.g. hobos), rainwear or a poncho. When buying, you should then pay particular attention to a waterproof coating. While hip bags work well as an addition to smaller backpacks, they can be more of a hindrance when used together with larger trekking backpacks. Large backpacks usually have a wide hip belt that is also worn around the waist or hips. What should you pay particular attention to when buying a hip bag? Special attention should of course be paid to the intended use. The gear should still be stowable as securely as possible in a hip bag and, if attached on the outside, be able to be strapped down so that everything stays in place even during faster movements. In some cases, especially during activities such as running or trail running, a waist pack can become annoying over time. The simplest solution is to slide it to the side or back, provided this is possible given its size. Some hip bags are even specifically designed to be rotated to the side or back.

Questions: Hip bags

How should hip bags be cared for?

Basically, the same applies here as for backpacks. Buckles and fasteners should be cleaned regularly to ensure they keep working properly over time. Zippers can be cleaned well with a brush like the kind you use to clean shoes.
