Weather-related aspects

Anyone who rarely treats themselves to functional footwear is surprised by the extensive selection at ASMC. But only in this way is it possible to find the right boots for the intended field of use. As you would expect, the models’ material properties meet the demands of different seasons. While some models simply complement the outfit stylishly or protect against moisture, others focus on insulating properties or comprehensive cold protection. Terrain aspects

Apart from their characteristic suitability for certain weather conditions and comfort, the sole is what really matters in a boot. It’s very revealing to take a close look at the tread patterns in ASMC’s product range. Renowned brands know that every terrain comes with specific requirements. The pronounced structure of a mountain boot must provide plenty of grip on vegetated ground as well as on loose rock. On jungle expeditions, grip is needed on slippery sections, but the tread must not immediately clog up with loose soil. On demanding missions in the city, the base of the boots must also prove itself when sprinting uphill on asphalt or during daring jumps from height. With work shoes in particular, it’s important that the sole is not attacked by acids and allows safe footing on “explosive” ground. On horseback, by contrast, smooth soles are preferable. Only then are precise, sensitive movements at a gallop possible. Gaiters complement this selection perfectly by providing additional protection against moisture and dirt, shielding the legs from injuries caused by undergrowth and improving thermal insulation, which can be particularly beneficial in extreme weather conditions.

Expert tip: Step by step to a well-laced shoe

Tying your shoes is considered an easy task. But there are a few tricks that make walking easier.
With targeted lacing techniques, many problems can be avoided from the outset. A main problem for many people is the heel. It is often narrower than the heel box. Then the foot slips upward with every step. On boots with so-called “deep-draw hooks”, the heel fit can be improved using pulley lacing: thread the laces through both deep-draw hooks. Then run the opposite lace ends under this connection between the hooks. If you now pull both laces tight, the foot is pressed into the heel box. Finally, lace the boot as usual in a criss-cross pattern.
If there is pressure on the instep (“top of the foot”), it is advisable to thread the laces at the height of the pressure point through two eyelets on the same side instead of crossing them. This gives the boot room to expand.

Which size is the right one?

There is no general statement here, since shoe sizes are not standardized.
Because you slide forward when walking downhill for longer periods, there should be enough space to prevent your toes from bumping. There should be about 1 cm of space from the tip of your toes to the front of the shoe.

What else should you pay attention to when trying them on?

Boots should be bought in the evening, not in the morning. Over the course of the day your feet swell, so the size may end up being a bit too tight.

It’s best to wear the same socks you’ll be wearing in the shoe.
