In principle, both earplugs and over-ear hearing protectors serve their purpose equally well, although the latter are somewhat bulkier. If you don’t want to sacrifice much space in your luggage, you should opt for compact solutions; for the shooting range and similar uses, full-size earmuffs are recommended. In addition to classic protection through high-quality padding, electronic earmuffs are available as a modern alternative. With these, the microphone-like function of the membranes is automatically switched off as soon as outside noise exceeds a preset level. For effective use, the primary concern is an optimal fit in the ear canal or on the outer ear. Many brand manufacturers therefore rely on soft padding that adapts to the shape of your ear and can be worn without pain.
