Helmets

To prevent serious, long-term head injuries, combat helmets are an enormously important part of soldiers’ basic equipment. Military helmets must not only protect the head from direct gunshot impacts, but also reliably shield it from shrapnel and fragments caused by blast waves or nearby explosions.

Ballistic combat helmets offer optimal protection in tough day-to-day service and do their utmost to prevent serious, sometimes fatal head injuries. In addition, military helmets are designed to provide the wearer with maximum comfort: they are usually characterized by an ergonomic shell shape and score with their low weight.

A so-called FAST helmet is worn by numerous special units in the military and police. FAST stands for “Future Assault Shell Technology”: these are armored military helmets that are characterized by particularly low weight. In addition, the manufacture of these combat helmets often uses ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fibers. FAST military helmets are considered standard issue in, for example, the Norwegian army, providing optimal head protection for their soldiers. Another characteristic feature of these helmets is the raised cut of the shell above the ear. This allows communication devices such as headsets to be better integrated with the military helmets.

Another type of combat helmet is the PASGT helmet: Personal Armor System for Ground Troops. Production here mostly uses aramids, which provide top-level ballistic protection against shrapnel and the like. PASGT military helmets are compatible with night vision devices, gas masks and communication systems.

MICH combat helmets, or “Modular Integrated Communications Helmet”, are used, for example, by the US military. These military helmets are particularly suitable for infantry missions and are highly valued by users for their good field of view. Various communication devices can also be attached to MICH combat helmets.
