Protective goggles serve your safetyThere are different types of safety glasses for different applications. The aim of these glasses is to provide effective protection for the eyes. They are worn like normal glasses, but there are different attachment options that have proven particularly effective in outdoor use. Some safety glasses are secured with a strap at the back of the head to ensure a secure fit. Others have so‑called sports temples that curve further around the ear than normal glasses so that they do not fall off even during more vigorous activities. The safety glasses come with a case in which they can be safely stored when not in use. The case is compact and easy to handle. It can always be carried with you and stowed away easily so that it is ready to hand at any time.
At ASMC you’ll find safety glasses in various designs and from different manufacturers, such as Uvex, Bollé or 3M. They often have tinted lenses to protect against sun and UV light, some even in accordance with DIN standard EN 166, which then offer up to 100% UV protection. Classic temple versions are available as well as models that are secured with a wide strap at the back of the head and cannot slip. The lenses are made from special plastics that are particularly hard and resistant. They are much less likely to scratch, break or shatter than those of normal glasses. The lenses of safety glasses come in different tints and are therefore suitable for different applications. They offer the eyes special protection not only from strong sunlight, but also from dust or small flying particles such as chips or splinters.
To use glasses – whether safety glasses or any other type – as a magnifying glass, it is sufficient to fill the viewing area with water (or a comparable liquid). This changes the way the light rays are refracted and the glasses serve as a magnifying glass or lens.
In principle, such glasses should be worn for all tasks that could pose any kind of risk to the eyes. When handling lyes, corrosive liquids or applying wood preservative stain, a splash can get into the eye just as easily as when chipping wood with a shredder or when carving, where a splinter can quickly fly off. That’s why eye protection is recommended. But safety glasses can also be more than advisable for sporting activities such as airsoft. For regular operations involving firearms, there are also so‑called ballistic models, which are even more shatter‑resistant.
Yes, absolutely. In the case of a partial or total eclipse of the sun, the brightness at the edge is extremely glaring and effectively outshines the surrounding darkness, making it much more intense. Alternatively, there are special filter foils that can be attached in front of your own glasses or a camera. You can usually recognize such glasses easily because they look as if they are covered with aluminum foil. Under no circumstances should you look at a solar eclipse without such glasses, as this can cause permanent eye damage. Warning 1: Sunglasses do not meet the requirements under any circumstances, no matter how dark they are. Warning 2: Driving a car while wearing these protective glasses is not permitted.
Most models are made of plastic that has been specially treated or manufactured to prevent breaking or shattering as is common with regular glasses.
You should always use special lens-cleaning cloths, as all other cloths such as tissues or napkins can, firstly, leave lint and, secondly, are usually far too rough. This can result in permanent scuff marks or even deeper scratches.
These are safety goggles that completely seal off the eye area all around. This is achieved by a gasket that runs around the entire inner rim of the glasses. For a secure fit, the goggles are therefore also equipped with a headband so that the seal can be ensured by light pressure.
