From biathlete to successful company
The origins of Eberlestock lie in the USA and in biathlon. The founder, Glen Eberle, was himself a successful biathlete and took part in the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo.
What he lacked at the time was a lightweight backpack for practicing his signature discipline, one in which he could optimally stow his rifle. So, alongside his studies, he began designing a corresponding lightweight pack that would allow him to carry his sporting weapon safely without being restricted by extra weight during biathlon.
The result was that Glen Eberle revolutionized the international market with a robust backpack in which he could safely stow his weapon while not being noticeably hindered by additional weight in his sport. Incidentally, this is also where the name Eberlestock comes from: Eberle, his surname, and “stock,” the English word for rifle stock.
The innovative product was immediately well received and demand shot up within a very short time. Since then, the young company has been on a steep upward trajectory. In the meantime, the product portfolio includes not only rifle packs but also numerous duty and trekking backpacks.
