In addition to holsters for tools, lights and knives, their primary purpose is usually to carry a firearm or blank-firing gun. The area of use and the requirements placed on the weapon determine the ideal material and design. Holsters are preferably made from leather, carbon-fiber polymer, Cordura or Kydex. There are holsters available for both right- and left-handers. Due to their different body shape, women have different requirements for holster mounts than men.
