Camouflage nets not just for military use

Camouflage nets are indispensable for the military and for private tactical applications. They are available in different sizes and designs for various uses. The nets serve as camouflage in all kinds of operations.

The type of camouflage net determines its use

Camouflage nets are available for helmets, for the ground, for the face, and also in special versions for snipers or scouts. The fine-mesh nets are elastic and tear-resistant. They are designed to hold camouflage material securely. During operations in forests and open terrain, for example, branches and leaves are used, which are pushed under the net. This allows a person to conceal themselves in a simple yet very effective way. Tight-mesh nets hold small camouflage materials, while coarse-mesh versions can accommodate larger quantities. The net can be used not only on the ground, but also to cover objects such as vehicles. For this purpose, of course, large-area nets are used.

Nets are available for a variety of uses

At ASMC you’ll find camouflage nets for a wide range of applications. Helmet nets are particularly practical: they fit tightly around the helmet and can be filled with leaves or twigs to enhance camouflage. For larger areas, ASMC offers nets in different colors and sizes. These can be spread out on the ground or wrapped around objects. In any case, the camouflage net is used so that material can be pushed underneath to create cover. In this way, structures, underground passages or installations can be concealed on the ground. If the nets are green or brown, they are almost unnoticeable. If, for example, personnel are to be concealed in the Bundeswehr, there are various camouflage nets that cover the face. These are designed so that breathing and vision are not impaired. Nevertheless, the face is well hidden, which is indispensable especially for fair-skinned people on deployment. Snipers or scouts need special camouflage nets for their work, which are also available from ASMC. All camouflage nets are of very high quality and are tailored to their respective field of use. The range includes new and used nets from German and foreign stocks, which may differ in design. Thanks to the range of sizes, you can match your purchase to the intended use. See also Ghillie suits

Expert tip: How can you make a camouflage net yourself?

This is how it’s done – building your own camouflage net: Get a coarse-meshed net (fishing net or similar) and textile material in different colors (green, brown, etc.). Cut the textile material into strips and weave them into the net. Your camouflage net is finished.

There is no complicated explanation for this as you might assume; they are called that because they closely resemble the identification tags commonly used for dogs.

Are you allowed to use camouflage nets as privacy screens?

In general, there is nothing to be said against it, especially in private settings where there are no limits. However, some countries have anti-mask laws that prohibit covering your face in public. The conclusion is: visual protection is basically fine, but not in public.

Camouflage net as mosquito protection – yes or no?

Camouflage nets are not suitable as mosquito protection because they are generally much too coarse-meshed and do not present an obstacle for mosquitoes.

Are there fireproof camouflage nets?

Camouflage nets are available in many different colors, sizes and fire protection classes. Note that in the private sector, fire protection classes don’t play a major role, but they may be very important in more professional use. Camouflage nets for military/outdoor use should belong to a higher fire protection class and thus be flame-retardant. Important here: When purchasing, the net must come with an appropriate test certificate stating the testing institute and the corresponding test number; otherwise, from an official standpoint, it is not considered fireproof.

Do camouflage nets also protect against thermal imaging and infrared devices?

What is so-called “dazzle” camouflage?

Dazzle camouflage, also known as "razzle dazzle" or "dazzle painting." It was used extensively as ship camouflage in World War I and, to a lesser extent, in World War II. Initiated by artist Norman Wilkinson, it consisted of complex patterns and geometric shapes in high-contrast colors.
